Jobs In Solar: Solar company hiring (Minneapolis / St Paul)

Solar LED Innovations is hiring motivated sales people to run trade shows in the Minneapolis/St Paul area. We started our company seven months ago and have experienced tremendous growth with over $200,000 in sales, doing only trade shows. We are a team of only 7 people covering the entire continental US. What this position would require is for you to have an entrepreneurial spirit and a go-getter attitude. You would need to get sufficient inventory of solar flash lights (about $1,200) to run a show and would net out the difference between wholesale pricing and retail pricing. Wholesale pricing is about 60% of retail pricing. On average, after discounting the cost of the booth at a show, we make between $400 and $2,000 net, in cash, per show, with an average of $1,000. If you would like to get more information about this opportunity, feel free to email me your resume. We will be running the Go Green Expo this weekend. Please visit gogreenexpo dot com for the hours and location of the event. If you are interested in this opportunity, I will get you a free pass for the show and you will be able to see what this job is all about, in real time. Be prepared to see a crowd around our booth because of the quality of our solar flash lights. We patent, manufacture and assemble these lights right here in the US. For more information, email me at patrick@solargoose.com.

Solar Powered Manure Recycling!

There's a glam side to solar. We have many beautifully designed buildings, vehicles, phones, even clothes that are solar powered. All the elegantly designed and built solar powered technologies in use today and being developed for tomorrow are exciting to consider.

But, what about the practical and down to earth applications and businesses that need help from the sun's rays? What about the daily care of dairy cows, chickens and other earthy chores that have to get done on a typical farm. How would solar power possibly work in a farm setting?

The University of Delaware has their own dairy farm and came up with a master plan five years ago to integrate solar power into their farm. As time went by and funding became available they were able to acquire solar panels which they use to power the farm's feed storage and storm water treatment facilities and yes, a manure recycling facility!

Their latest project was the installation of 44 panels on the roof of the manure recycling facility. They're also utilizing green energy for a wetland project, stream restoration and a new milking parlor.

Tom Sims, deputy dean of agriculture, said this way of running a successful farm is "doable and practical."

Here we have a down to earth use of solar powered technology that directly affects the consumer. The use of solar energy is no longer considered an odd far left hippy-dippy impractical ridiculous pursuit as it once was. The cow's milk, goat's milk, eggs, etc you eat on a regular basis will be produced by farms using clean-green energy. From skyscrapers to recycling manure the use of solar power is becoming more commonplace and accepted as a practical way to improve our environment and our lives.

More details on the farm at the University of Delaware.

New Solar Parabolic Mirror Design

Inventor Roger Angel has designed a lightweight aluminum framed parabolic mirror that may over time reduce the cost of solar power to the point it rivals the cost of coal-burning electrical plants.

The mirror's 21 sections focus sunlight on single solar cell. A prototype is being shipped next week that could be used to create small portable solar generators for battlefield deployment.

If it's successful and they can mass produce these mirrors this could bring down the cost of solar to rival coal plants.

Have a Green Halloween!

Here's an interesting Halloween themed site: Green Halloween!

Ten easy steps to making your Halloween
eek-o-friendly

Kermit was wrong. It is easy being green [on Halloween].
And with this list of ten steps, we make it even easier.

1. Plan ahead to avoid last-minute shopping which often limits your choices.
2. When it comes to costumes and décor—reuse, borrow, trade, purchase used or do-it-yourself.
3. Treat bags can be anything! For extra fun, match the bag to the costume using something you
already own. Here are some ideas: purses, flower pots (cover the hole), cloth sacks, backpacks,
lunchboxes.
4. Choose healthier treats. Take baby steps with organic candy and honey sticks, two child-favored
choices. (Honey is not for children under two years of two).
5. Choose fun treasures instead of conventional sweets. Think of the treasures your child collects
in her pockets—pretty rocks, feathers, etc.
6. If you’re giving a party, avoid disposables including napkins, plates, cups, tablecloths and other
décor.
7. Walk from house to house instead of driving.
8. Compost pumpkins and any other food, including leftover candy.
9. Collect candy wrappers and help your kids turn them into gift items like purses, bracelets and
picture frames. Find directions on the internet.
10. Check out www.GreenHalloween.org often for fun, new ideas.

Commercial Concentrated Solar Power for Rooftops

The scientists and researchers at "Sopogy" have created the world's first concentrating solar power technology designed for commercial rooftop installation.

Called "SopoFlare", it's supposed to have a unique mounting and fastening system for rooftop installation. Sopogy has come up with their own solar tracker and storage solution which beats their competitors by being 30% cheaper. Sopoflare is 8ft long and 2.5 ft wide making it easier to install on commercial and industrial rooftops.

They will be exhibiting at the "Solar Power International" conference going on in Anaheim CA right now through Friday Oct. 29th.

* Check out the SopoFlare at Sopogy.

* If in the Anaheim CA area check out "Solar Power International '09 Conference."

5 Alternative Energy Producing Technologies

The Wall Street Journal has a nice article on alternative energy producing technologies in various stages of development. Naturally solar power is mentioned but in relation to using space-based technology that beams the power down to a receiver.

The other 4 technologies are:

Advanced Vehicle Batteries such as Lithium-Air batteries that pull oxygen from the air to get a charge. The article admits however, that r & d that leads to commercialization could be at least 10 yrs away.

Utility Storage. In this case lithium-ion battery energy would be the method scientists would focus on for energy grid storage. Lithium-ion batteries could be placed close to grid customers in an attempt to more efficiently capture and deliver renewable energy.

Carbon Capture and Storage. Two different methods are being studied for dealing with CO2 produced by coal plants. One technology focuses on capturing the CO2 that's constantly being generated and other scientists are working on cutting emissions by 90% while cutting costs.

BioFuels. In this case the star is Algae. Algae grows fast and can generate 5000 gallons a year per acre of biofuel compared to 350 gallons produced by corn-ethanol. But this technology is still so green (pardon the expression) that it will be yrs before they figure out all the drawbacks to maintaining and producing this type of biofuel. Since algae based biofuel can be added to already existing distribution systems it could produce enough to cover the vehicle fuel needs of the entire country. Again, this technology is years away also.

All these game-changing energy producing and controlling technologies will be in development for years but their success will be worth the wait!

Check out the 5 interesting technologies at The Wall Street Journal Online.
