If you've got a few bucks put away or know a solar friendly venture capitalist then you might want to know about the land auction taking place on June 6th in Phoenix. A land holding company named Vermaland will be auctioning off 1,938 acres of land at the Sheraton Crescent Hotel Saturday June 6th at 1pm.Vermaland says that this parcel can generate 388 megawatts of electricity which would provide power for approx. 100,000 homes. The company has pv panels in mind by thermal solar is a hot topic in Arizona right now. The state had approx. 13,000 square miles of relatively flat level dry sunny land that is a nice match for thermal solar projects. Fred Morse who is an expert says if Arizona's dry flat land is built out for solar it could produce over 1,700 gigawatts of power!
Lockheed recently announced they will build a 290 megawatt solar thermal plant outside of the Phoenix area.
The National Renewable Energy Lab announced that this parcel up for auction has a continuous slope of less than 1% and is considered to be located in a "high solar resource area."
Auction details can be found at the land auctioneers site Southwest Real Estate Auctioneers.
